Pancake-Coil Preparation

This workshop wishes to introduce the basic notions of electro-acoustic transduction through the construction of distinctive sounders’ from diverse home-brought materials such as paper, glass, plastics or organic materials.

 

The morphology of a loudspeaker will be followed. For the inception, we will boost audio signals through self soldered power amplifying circuitry. The signals will be then passed through coiled copper wires that will be set in motion in the proximity of strong neodymium magnets. We will attach the coils to various materials to create diaphragms or cones that once enacted will push the air back and forth to create sound waves.

The participants will be introduced to magnetic fields, coil winding, soldering, and amplification. The materials used will be kept by the participants at the end of the workshop. Manual work is implied.
